Traditional Full English Breakfast Recipe. Gail and Jill, of the Blacksmith's Café in Hastings, guide us through the ritual of making the perfect fried breakfast. Savour our Traditional Full English Breakfast recipe.
- Serves:
- 1
- Preparation Time:
- 5 minutes
- Cooking Time:
- 15 minutes
- Step 1:
-
You will need
- 2 sausages
- 100 g mushrooms
- 2 Rashers bacon
- 2 eggs
- 150 g baked beans
- vegetable oil
- ketchup or brown sauce
- 1 knife
- 1 chopping board
- 1 wooden stirring spoon
- 1 spatula
- 1 small saucepan
- 2 frying pans
- Step 2:
-
Sausages
- We start with our sausages. Quality is crucial here - go for ones with a high percentage of pork and natural ingredients. Place them in a frying pan with preheated vegetable oil. They'll take the longest to cook of all our ingredients, around 12 minutes, with regular turning required. They make a lovely, reassuring sizzle as they fry.
- Step 3:
-
Mushrooms
- Wash and slice the mushrooms. Add them to some preheated vegetable oil in a separate frying pan, then stir and toss them on a gentle heat for about 5 minutes. After that, consign them to a warm plate until the rest of the fry-up is finished, which won't be long now. Because things are really starting to hot up.
- Step 4:
-
Bacon
- Bacon next; when the sausages have been frying for 8 minutes, add the rashers to the same pan and turn them every minute or two.
- Step 5:
-
Baked beans
- As soon as your bacon's under way, the baked beans go on the stove. They require a gentle heat and plenty of stirring. Now it's a total juggling act!
- Step 6:
-
Eggs
- While you keep an eye on all that sizzling and bubbling, replenish the other frying pan with oil and put it on a medium heat in readiness for the eggs. Keep turning the bacon and stirring the beans; then crack one egg... and two, into the empty frying pan. Transfer it to the hottest plate on the stove if necessary - keep stirring those beans! And we're nearly done. The final touch is to get your spatula and splash hot oil over the eggs until the yolks go opaque. This is a sure sign that they're cooked properly. And when they're done, the whole meal is done.
- Step 7:
-
Serve
- Add it all to the plate with the mushrooms on and get ready for the Full English experience. Try a little tomato ketchup or brown sauce for the finishing touch to the perfect fried breakfast.

GOURMET FOOD : KEEP EATING HEALTHY : EASY DINNER RECEPIES ARE THEY LIKE THAT, REALLY FUNNY BUT TRUE
Random Hilarity: Northwoods Gourmet: Healthy Livin'
Northwoods Gourmet: Healthy Livin'
The Northwoods Gourmet Bob Wershmeyer shares his helpful tips for eating right - nort' woods style.
- Step 1:
-
Healthy Living Episode
- Okay, now today we're featuring our first annual Healthy Living episode. Now I'll admit this was my wife Marianne's idea more than it was mine. But she's got a point. After all, here in the old twenty-first century we ought to start looking out for the ticker. It turns out heart disease is the number two killer of folks up here in the Northwoods, right behind snowmobile accidents. And since I can't very well go asking you to stay off your snowmobile after a few brewskies, the least I can do is help you do a little healthier living at the table.
- Step 2:
-
Low-Fat Mayonnaise
- Okay, tip number one. Now we all love cheese curds. Squeaky good fun for the kids and even better when you batter them up in the fryer and dip them in some mayo. But this classic side dish can be a little bit on the calorie side. So next time instead of deep frying your cheese curds in the batter and dipping them in mayonnaise, deep fry your cheese curds and dip them in low fat mayonnaise. I promise, you won't miss the calories. Or maybe you will.
- Step 3:
-
Donut Fat
- Okay, tip number two. Now we all love the coffee clutch in the church basement and the PTA meetings. After all, there's plenty of free donuts. But even though they're the perfect breakfast hors d'oeuvre, those donuts are full of what I like to call hidden calories.
Also known as sprinkles. But don't worry, you can just take yourself a knife and scrape those hidden calories right off into a bowl. Oh yeah. You also might want to skip putting butter on the donut. Of course, I don't want to totally ruin it for you, so that personal decision is optional. - Step 4:
-
Coffee & Sugar
- Okay, tip number three. Now we all love a good cup of coffee; I know I do. Whether you're up in a deer stand, out in the ice shanty, or just out in the drive. A hot cup of java can really keep the engine running. But if you're like old Bob here, you probably want to put some sugar in there. Oh yeah; that's right. As my old uncle Inbar used to say, you're not done until the spoon stands up and salutes.
That's one fine cup of joe, but a little on the steep side as far as calories go. But no worries; the Northwoods Gourmet has developed the perfect sugar substitute. Just take some of those hidden calories that we set aside earlier and use them to sweeten your coffee. There you go, sweet coffee without using sugar. Now if you're going to drink a lot of coffee you're going to have to make sure to eat a lot of donuts. After all, you don't want to go scraping the sprinkles off some other fellow's donuts. - Step 5:
-
Healthy Eating Conclusion
- Okay, that's about all the time we have for this year's Healthy Living episode, but with all these tips we gave you, you'll have plenty of opportunity to make it to next year.
