10 Forms of Poetry
1. Verse: A verse is a single metrical line of poetry.
2. Name: Poetry that explains about a word. From using the letters of the word for the first letter of each line.
3. List: Poem made up of a list of items or events. List can be any length. It can be either rhymed or unrhymed.
4. Petrarchan sonnet. A 14-line sonnet consisting of an octave rhyming abbaabba followed by a sestet of cddcee or cdecde. Wiki
5. ABC: Five lines poem which creates a mood, picture or feeling. The first word of each line is in alphabetical order , Note here, Lines one to four are made up of words, phrases or clauses. Line five is one sentence long and begins with any letter.
6. Carpe diem: Poems with the theme of living for today. Carpe diem: 'seize the day' - Latin.
7. Lay: Lay is a long narrative poem especially one that was sung by medieval minstrels.
8. Doggerel: Light verse that has humor and comic in it of little literary value.
9. Shakespearean sonnet: 14-line sonnet consisting of three quatrains of abab cdcd efef followed by a couplet, gg. iambic pentameter are generally followed by Shakespearean sonnets.
10. Classicism: Form of poetry which uphold the values,principles and ideals of beauty that shows the soul characteristic of Greek and Roman art, culture, traditions, architecture, literature and form of expression.
