PaksitanChronicles - Pakistan has banned Youtube.com (largest video site on the internet).

Alexa Ranking - Traffic Details

First of all I would like the Pakistani users to try accessing youtube. If it works there isn't any ban, it has been lifted. No need to read the article any further, then. But if doesn't direct you to youtube (use anonymous browsing sites - like hidemyass.com or the-cloak.com or thefreecountry.com/security/anonymous.shtml)

Youtube is banned in Pakistan. Just analyze it in terms of Statistics. What do you think? How many users of internet are in Pakistan. I think for a developing country like Pakistan the number of people using fast internet connection are not more than 4-5 Million.

Here is a snapshot from Internet World stats

So, a developing country like Pakistan should or shouldn't block Youtube.com. The funny part is that PTA doesn't mention anything on their site. What a surprise! Small number of students who go to Youtube.com will not be able to go there. Students in developing countries need all the resources they can get in order to develop Pakistan.

Pakistan has issues like no cooking gas (to cook food, 'here we go again!'), petrol prices about to sky Rocket, shortage of clean drinking water, over Population and what not. Still they are insisting on putting up a ban. First Pakistan blocked Blogger (biggest blogging site) and Youtube. Not to mention here that she has blocked these sites in the past also.

Pakistan should stop doing all the stuff which hinders its progress. With a Literacy rate of around 50%. Still all the ban on imparting of knowledge, media and voices of Individuals being held doesn't make an ounce of sense. Yes, Coursera, Khan Academy, MIT OpenCourseWare, Udemy, TeacherTube, Codecademy, iVersity and the like exists but youtube is a general platform. What that means is, you can virtually find all the pieces or some of the pieces of all the above mentioned sites. You can learn infinitely (Ah! these exaggerations to prove a point!) on youtube.

Gangs, groups of terrorists and elite mindless people should be provided with education not destructive weapons. Media makes us realize the importance of development needed in various sectors of Pakistan, youtube is also such a medium.

What are we doing in banning internet websites that are so popular? Grow up! Let the students and teachers learn and let them express their opinions. Pakistan would take 100 more years to get educated don't block source of media that can reduce this 100 to a 10.

For minds to grow. They need to have words. Youtube is a world of words.

Funny Bit! Youtube is in English and official language of Pakistan is URDU and most people using internet comes from a Punjabi background or Sindhi background.
